If you use your snorkel properly it will give you a clear vision of what is going on under the sea without having to breathe water.
Snorkel usage instructions
The Basics
– At the beginning, test your mask and snorkel together to see whether it is comfort.
– Position the small rubber strap to your mask and the snorkel will now pass just above your left ear.
– Take a deep breath and submerge your head into the water.
– Exhale once to clear any water that maybe is in the snorkel shaft. This is known as ’’blasting’’ and ’’purging’’.
– Inhale again in case there is any residual water, blast a second time if it is needed and continue to do whatever you wanted.
– Learn to make gently movements so it will prevent that snorkel be filled with water.
– Inhale and hold your breath, then, dive to explore the underwater environment.
– Be sure that the snorkel end is above the surface, then purge to clear the tube of water.
– Breathe to be sure that the snorkel is cleared completely.
Clearing the Snorkel of Water
– Make sure that you are having the mouthpiece of the snorkel securely with your teeth.
– You need to make strong exhale through your mouth because when you do that, the water will be expelled from the tube.
– Inhale slowly and blast second time if it is needed.
– Continue to blast whenever water enters the snorkel.
Tips and warnings
When you are floating in the water with your face down, the snorkel should be vertically above your head.
It is normal that snorkel be flooded with water periodically because of waves.
Some snorkels have a type of one-way valve at the top that is intended to stop any water from getting inside while on the surface. But it is not necessary.
