Snorkeling in North Carolina

North Carolina is very popular place for snorkeling. There are many dive shops where you can purchase the equipment and get information about water and weather conditions.

Types

Snorkeling in North Carolina can be very interesting. You can go snorkeling near the shore or you can go far from the shore but you will need the boat for it. For this reason, almost every dive shop organizes boat tours to the best locations. People go snorkeling far from the shore because it water visibility is better. In the water near the shore visibility is not very good.

 Features

North Carolina’s Outer Banks are very popular for snorkelers because there are good temperature of the water and the visibility is very good. Another location that is very good is The Gulf Stream. There are many sandbar reefs and tropical fishes and sandy tiger sharks that are very attractive to people, and they want to watch them under the water.

Geography

Other good locations with good visibility and warm water are: Wrightsville Beach, Outer Banks, Nags Head and Oregon Inlet. People go snorkeling here to see the world under the water. Water visibility is very good, water temperature is very pleasant and there is a very rich underwater world.

Considerations

Some people always engage a guide to find the good location for snorkeling. Rising tide is variable as the wind so the guide will know the best places for snorkeling in that moment. In some time, visibility of water is better and you might not know that without the guide.

Warning

In the Wrightsville Beach’s Banks Channel there are strong current of water as it is in the Oregon Inlet. Those two locations are recommended only for very good swimmers.
